The Hunger Games, 8 - 9

Use these prompts to inspire your response: What has happened in the book that seems important to the story?

In chapters 8 through 9 Katniss and Peeta had just found out their scores from the private session with the Gamemakers. Ever since Katniss arrived to the Capital she occasionally meets the Avox girl who she saw being chased, almost like she was trying to escape. Katniss and Gale (her hunting partner) were in the woods when out of nowhere a hovercraft appeared dropping a net on the girl and carried her up. As the now Avox girl was being pulled up, she locked eyes with Katniss. That was the first time Katniss had seen that girl. This occurred in chapter 6.
After seeing the Avox girl a few times at the Capital, Katniss seemed to feel like it was her fault, she could had done something to help her. In chapter 9 on page 118 and 119 Katniss was smashing dishes around her room as the Avox girl came in. The girl went to the bathroom getting a damp cloth and started wiping off Katniss' face and the blood of her hands without being order to. At that moment Katniss questioned herself thinking, Why is she doing this? Why am I letting her? Not being able to control herself, Katniss whisper to her,"I should have tried to save you". The Avox girl shakes her head as Katniss begins to think, "Does this mean we were right to stand by? That she has forgiven me? But Katniss couldn't help herself but say, "No, it was wrong". Tacitly the girl tapped her lips and pointed to Katniss' chest. Making Katniss infer that she would have ended an Avox as well or been killed. After helping the girl clean up the room Katniss lets her tuck her into bed. Katniss wants her to stay there until she falls asleep and be there when she wakes up but doesn't say anything as the girl leaves.


In my opinion I think the Avox girl has an important role that relates to the Hunger Games. If she didn't then I don't think the author would just waste time explaining about some Avox girl. She has been mention a few different times now so I think she might give Katniss useful information in the Hunger Games.

    Your post was amazing how you thought outside the box which you thought was important like how the avox was wiping the blood of of Katniss's face i totally forgot about that until I read your blog which refreshed my mind. Also something that is a little off topic but was great how you put the page it happened and it inspired me to start doing that so people know what i'm talking about. If you respond to this comment why did you choose to do the avox girl from all of the other options but great post hope you can put more up about this because they are really exciting to read.

      Thanks Michael that was really helpful. I chose the Avox girl over the other options because I thought that she might have an important role in the Hunger Games or the following books.
